About this tour
Plitvice Lakes is Croatia’s oldest and largest national park, protected since 1949 and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979 for its sixteen cascading lakes, divided into an Upper and Lower group by the type of rock beneath them. Turquoise water moves between the lakes over natural travertine barriers that are still forming today, ending in the Sastavci waterfalls where the Korana river begins.
Wooden walkways and boat crossings let you walk between and over several of the lakes on a full loop of the park. It’s a full day out from Dubrovnik — roughly 5 hours each way — best planned as an early departure.
