The town of Saint Domnius, football club Hajduk and rich historical heritage
Split is a town that offers shade of the Marjan forest in the western part of the peninsula, 15 kilometers of promenades by the sea and Dalmatian song in the cobbled streets of the old town. The town is situated in one of the sunniest parts of the central Mediterranean. Spiritual vertical and the patron of Split is St. Domnius . The celebration of the day of St. Domnius is also the celebration of the town of Split, the most valuable Split tradition, the notion of faith in the town. On that day, its streets reflect an entirely different spirit and have a special rhythm. Split is also the home of the football club Hajduk whose fans, called the “Torcida”, support their team no matter the ups and downs
The famous Split waterfront is also the main public square and central location where all the social, sports, religious and other events take place. Besides the mentioned, it is also the favorite gathering place for young and old, an attractive 250 meters long promenade, dominated in the summer by a mild and refreshing maestral wind (summer breeze) while in the winter, like a winter coat, the Mediterranean sun and the palace protect it from the cold. One of the main reminders of the history of Split is the Diocletian’s Palace from the fourth century, protected by the UNESCO. Its magnificent building reminds us of the wealth and power Split once had. The other “must see” sights are the statue of Gregory of Nin, the Golden Gate, the Prokurative square, the Gallery of Ivan Meštrović, …
Every town has a “certain something” that every visitor can feel, and for Split they say it feels like you’re at home, you just don’t want to leave…
